Shoulder season

Well, we've been having a run of poor weather now for a few weeks. Town is quiet. All of the seasonal pilots have headed for warmer climates leaving just a skeleton crew waiting for the snow to fall properly, for the skiers to arrive and for the ski lifts to open so that we can start flying from the summit at 5450ft!

We do have some snow already on Coronet Peak which is just about coming down to just below the level of the Car Park take-off. So unless there's a bit of Southerly, we get katabatic winds a lot of the time. However, we've still managed to squeeze some nice long flights in at the Terraces which has been great fun. This ridge soaring and top landing, stronger wind type of flying makes a welcome break to the normal run from the peak and reminds me so much of ridge soaring UK style.
